Background and Experience
I grew up in Devon and was regularly exposed to Dartmoor and the coast so it’s no surprise that I chose to live and work in Dorset surrounded by beautiful countryside and amazing beaches. I also completed both my BA (Hons) degree in Sport Science and PGCE in the south west and it was during my studies that I discovered my passion for teaching and working with young people.
I am an experienced teacher of twenty years, with PE at my heart, especially teaching and working with Sixth Form students. I’ve held numerous roles as I have developed through my career including leading Post 16 PE, developing early career professionals training in a Teaching School, and leading a college of 380 students with responsibility for their pastoral care and academic progress. I have a genuine love of learning and have recently completed my National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders (NPQSL).
I’m married and have two sons; we travel as often as possible and have enjoyed visiting Europe, south-east Asia and Australia. I run regularly; often entering 10K race events. To relax I spend time reading a good book and strongly believe that reading is chocolate for the brain.
I am a committed practitioner who is passionate about recognising the talents and needs of every student, developing these, and preparing them to respond positively to life’s opportunities and challenges.
Three Personal Values
- Authenticity – be yourself, be genuine and don’t try to be what you think others want you to be
- Positivity – bring energy and enthusiasm to your work and be supportive of others
- Determination – know what you want to achieve; be brave and keep working hard to reach it, even if you are set back, try again
My Favourite Educational Quote
