It was our great pleasure as an academy to welcome the Mayor of Poole to the end of year EPQ Showcase presenting the amazing work that the Year 12 students have done for their Extended Project Qualifications.
These projects count as half an A Level and can be used to get reduced offers for university. They can also be used to showcase the skills that have been used to complete the work, at job interviews or on applications for apprenticeships. They are seen as “golden tickets” into some of the highest ranking Russell Group universities in the UK.
There was a palpable feeling of excitement as the staff and students toured the displays of fantastic work set up by those in Year 12 who have worked hard all year on their various essays, artefacts and events.
Refreshments provided by the students in relation to their topics were enjoyed by both staff and visitors and were a well earned reward for everyone’s hard work all year.
The Mayor took time to speak to the majority of the students and hear their wonderful insights into some very relevant topics, that are not only local, but national issues. He commented some were high on his agenda for next year.
The Mayor was impressed by the mature way students verbalised their efforts throughout the year on some high level topics from such diverse themes.
Here at Magna Academy we are all extremely proud of the students’ hard work and dedication, which was clearly visible in not only what they displayed at the showcase, but also in the quality of the written work that they have produced throughout the year.
