Magna Academy’s Year 8 football team travelled to a local school on a blustery Thursday afternoon to fulfil their crucial semi final fixture.
The first half presented a tough challenge, with Magna playing into a strong breeze and accompanying slope. Magna rose to the challenge brilliantly, battling away to stave off some potent attacking play from the opposition. Captain Alfie W and his centre back partner Lloyd were both stubborn and resolute in defence in order to keep the scores level. It got even better for Magna mid-way through the first half, with Alfie M continuing his mesmerising scoring form with a tidy finish into the bottom corner from close range. 1-0 at half time and a very impressive start to the semi final.
With the conditions more favourable in the second half, it didn’t take long before Magna took full control of the match. Two goals in as many minutes from our super striker made it 3-0 with 20 minutes to play. That’s now two hat-tricks in as many matches for Alfie, a simply stunning return. Goalkeeper Zak pulled off a couple of impressive saves to keep the opposition at bay, this completed another commanding performance from our number 1. The final ten minutes was played with Magna controlling possession and playing on the front foot. Central midfielder Jayden played a pivotal role in setting up attacks with wingers Riley and Harlen using their pace and footwork skills to penetrate the opposition defence. It was Alfie who would take his tournament tally to 9 goals in just 3 matches though, rounding off the performance by finishing high past the goalkeeper to confirm a dominant 4-0 triumph.
This was definitely the year 8’s best all round team performance to date, with every single individual playing their part in this excellent display. I am very excited to announce that we will now be in the final of the Year 8 PEDSSA Town Cup after the Easter holidays. A massive well done goes to the boys. The whole school is very proud of your achievement and will be backing you all the way in the final!
An exceptionally proud Mr Ginger
