Students and staff marked Remembrance Day through a two-minute silence on the Academy playing fields.
We are proud of how impeccably behaved all students were throughout the event and the understanding they showed of its significance. Students who are part of groups, such as the cadets, wore their uniforms proudly and many students wore poppies that were sold by student volunteers throughout the week.
Further events also took place earlier in the week including assemblies for all Houses focussing on the British Legion’s theme this year of ‘service and sacrifice’. On Remembrance Day itself, students examined the important, and often forgotten, role of troops from the British Empire in the two World Wars.
Finally, students have been researching the roles of local individuals and groups in the war effort and creating posters to help bring their stories to life. We are looking forward to judging these and awarding prizes.
