KS3 students made history by becoming the first ever Magna Academy Cricket team after travelling over to a local school for a friendly fixture on Monday afternoon.
Magna Academy’s captain, Charlie S, lost the toss and Magna were sent in to bat (although that was what Charlie wanted to do in the first place!). Magna’s openers started strong, with Ryan R hitting a quick fire 30 retired, from just 2.4 overs. The torch was then passed to Ryan C and Charlie S, who did well to steer Magna to a very competitive 70-3 from 6 overs. Small cameos with the bat from Arthur N, James H, Kurgan W, Annabelle W and Tommy G helped Magna to score exactly 100 at the end of their allotted 10 overs.
With the opposition requiring 101 to win, opening bowler James H started with some excellent swing bowling, taking a wicket in his first over to land the opposition at 2-1. Charlie S also struck in the second over, as Magna started to take control of the proceedings. It would be Kieran I who would steal the bowling show though, with his mesmerising spinners taking 2 wickets and conceding less than 5 runs from his 2 overs bowled, a very impressive effort! Alex C also did well with the ball from the other end, taking 2 wickets in a spell that ultimately ended the opposition’s realistic chance of a run chase. Matt C, Zach H and Oliver M finished off the bowling with some consistent line and length deliveries and the opposition finished on 52-9. Magna Academy wins by 48 runs!
Both myself and Mr Buller would just like to say how fantastic it was to finally see a Magna Academy Cricket team putting all of their hard work from the weekly club into a fine showing. We are already looking forward to booking another game soon. Well done everybody!
