Access arrangements allow students with specific needs such as special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access examinations and show what they know and can do without changing the demand of the assessment. The intention behind an access arrangement is to meet the particular needs of a student without affecting the integrity of the assessment. Access arrangements are the principal way in which awarding bodies comply with the duty under Equality Act 2010 to make ‘reasonable adjustments’.
The following access arrangements are the most common at Magna Academy:
- 25% extra time
- Reader or Computer reader
- Scribe
- Use of a computer
- Rest breaks
To qualify for access arrangements students will need to have an assessment in the academy and any recommendations arising from this will need to be supported by the class teacher in order to make sure it is the student’s normal way of working.
