A Memorable Finale
Last Friday, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming a selection of our Year 11 leavers for one final football match in the PE department. This student-initiated event was the first of its kind and turned out to be a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
The two teams, captained by Charlie S and Oliver M, each designed their own bespoke football shirts, which they proudly wore during their last walk through the ‘Magna tunnel’ with the Champions League theme tune resonating in the background. Following the national anthem and a round of handshakes, the match commenced.
The game was incredibly tense, with momentum swinging back and forth between the teams. Team Oliver took an early lead, but Team Charlie mounted an inspired comeback, turning the score to 2-1 in their favour. An unfortunate own goal in the last five minutes levelled the score at 2-2, leading to a dramatic penalty shootout. Team Charlie emerged victorious with a 4-2 win in the shootout, with captain Charlie S fittingly scoring the decisive penalty.
Team Charlie celebrated their triumph by lifting the inaugural ‘Year 11 Leavers Trophy’ amidst rapturous applause from their squad, a sporting round of applause from the opposition and cheers from spectators, all to the tune of ‘We Are The Champions’ by Queen.
Mr Ginger, Mr Hall, and Mr Hammett were responsible for awarding the Man of the Match honours. Alex C from Team Charlie was recognised for his commanding performance in midfield and an inspiring assist to teammate Harry D for a well-taken goal. Archie L from Team Oliver was acknowledged for his leadership and influence in guiding his team to a late comeback.
The event was remarkably observed by all Year 11 students, who displayed exemplary behaviour, professionalism and competitive spirit throughout. It was an honour to celebrate their time with us through such a special event. We would like to wish them all the very best in their future endeavours.
